MIDDLESEX COUNTY 70+ SOFTBALL LEAGUE


LEAGUE RULES 2011


The Objective of our League is to have fun AND avoid injury

 

We will apply all 2011 TUESDAY RETIREMENT LEAGUE RULES with the following exceptions:

 

EXCEPTIONS

 

Pitcher Protection Rule will be used for all league games

This rule was adopted for Liability insurance reasons.

 

NO Walk Rule

   Batter will either put the ball in play or make an out

   Balls will NOT count. Strikes will count

 

To Avoid Forfeits- the following rules will apply:

 

   Each team needs minimum of nine players at start of game

   Any team short 1 or two players

   May borrow team roster players as follows

 

1)      Borrow extra player from team opponent

2)      Borrow extra player from one of the other teams on the adjacent field

  Note: ALL Extra players borrowed will bat for the opponent team

3)      Opponent team will supply a catcher and one other fielder when

the opponent team is AT Bat (These players will bat for their own team)

 

FLOATERS

 

A player that is NOT on any team roster is considered a Floater.

 Floaters can only be used if NO players are available according

 to the previous rules on borrowing  EXTRA roster team players.

  Note: floaters will be assigned by league president

 

 

      Designated Runner Rule

 

  Manager must declare at players FIRST at bat that a DR is needed.

  A player who is injured AFTER first at bat may also be allowed a DR

 

 The designated runner POSITION  from behind the home plate will be defined at the start of every game .

 

Pinch Runners

 No limit on pinch runners except that the SAME runner may run only once per inning and will not be called out if they are on base and due up to bat. 

 Designated runner is considered a pinch runner.

 

Banned Bats    SEE attached  list of NON APPROVED bats

 

    All Bats must be slow-pitch officially approved by ASA for the current year

    with the exception of all Miken Freak bats. Bats with altered markings are   

     prohibited. A batter using a bat prohibited by these rules will be declared

     out and ejected from the game . 

 

     Exception for Ultra Bat

 

      Any player age 77 this calendar year may use the ULTRA bat this season.

      Rule subject to change if the Ultra is deemed a risk to other players.

      Any player using the Ultra bat who is not 77 or older will be declared out

      And EJECTED from the game.
